Nokia delivers additional tools to speed connected Java gaming development

Nokia today announced the availability of the latest Software Development Kit (SDK) for SNAP Mobile, its end-to end solution for connected mobile gaming in Java technology. The SNAP Mobile SDK 2.2 provides developers with a number of innovative tools to make it significantly easier to create connected mobile games. New features include a game template, skinable user interface framework, support for J2SE and Bot API. The SDK is available for download through Forum Nokia at http://www.forum.nokia.com/snapmobile.

The new game template provides a complete implementation for all required community functionality such as friends list and chat, with an interface that allows developers to either plug in existing game code, or to use as a basis for entirely new connected games. This template enables developers to concentrate on developing their game, not on the platform requirements, since most SNAP Mobile requirements are already in the game template.

The SNAP Mobile SDK 2.2 also adds support for J2SE, enabling developers to design games with cross platform support. This means that SNAP Mobile games can also be created as a desktop applications or applets to run on PCs and web pages with the possibility to play against the same game’s mobile version. For example, the N-Gage title Reset Generation uses the SNAP Mobile support for J2SE to enable players to compete against each other from a webpage and from their Nokia device.

What You Should Know Before Buying A IPhone 3G

What You Should Know Before Buying A IPhone 3G was written by David Horvath from iphone-skin.com

What You Should Know Before Buying A IPhone 3GApple quotes 5 hours of battery life for talk or video, with a full 16 hours in music mode -- no word on standby time yet. In a twisted way, this is one rumor mill we're almost sad to see grind to a halt; after all, when is the next time we're going to have an opportunity to run this picture? Apple is a product company. It's a hardware company. Apple has to maintain the stability and security of the device as well as avoid pissing off ATT and getting sued over infringement for 3rd party apps.

Apple is trying to kill off the I-touch and possibly eventually the I-pod making the I-phone the main star of the show. The marketing plan is to lead buyers to this easy $199 and $299 price as the less powerful devices (I-phone,and I-pod) are kept at higher prices which will eventually kill them off. Apple's iPhone SDK doesn't permit simultaneous running of applications, but programs usually save their state when they exit and recover it on launch, giving the appearance of task switching. Apple claims that the advertisement implied the availability of webpages, rather than their specific appearance.

Apple has updated the iPhone baseband, which means that by moving to the new version you risk to make yours un-unlockable in the future. Apple's claims that speeds are twice as fast as Edge were confirmed by my own download tests. It generally took 10 to 30 seconds to load popular websites through 3G, a lot zippier than when I accessed the sites on Edge. Apple does not guarantee that these links will be maintained or functional at any given time. Use the information below at your own discretion.

Apple said its stores will be open starting at 8 a.m. Friday for customers. Apple is promising to sell 10 million of the gizmos this year; many investors are betting the Cupertino, Calif., company will sell many more than that. Yet Jobs has managed to keep the look, the feel and a complete list of the phone's features under wraps. Apple made a cool-looking, well-designed phone for you, but in this economy I cannot justify adding a $120 expense without cutting down somewhere else to make up the difference. You'll get what you get and nothing more.

Apple isn't perfect. I don't know of many people who think it is. Apply tape to all the places you experience light leak. Apple, for instance, will charge $99 a year for its new MobileMe, which e-mail, contact and calendar updates to users' devices.

Apple has slacked on the copy and paste feature for the iPhone. One app, MagicPad, made it available but it only worked within itself. Apple is all about the interface. That's why they rule. Apple and Dell could then continue to fine tune their marketing to the dropouts, drug addicts, drunks and dirt bags. It would be a great marriage and an ideal targeted.

Apple has since acknowledged this issue (among others). We also noticed on the phone that if you have synced MobileMe calendars, your calendar subscriptions (like, say, shared Gcal or what have you) are disabled. Apple has plainly learned the lesson. Last year, the company vowed it would eventually open up the iPhone. Apple has really flubbed this up pretty badly IMHO. I really hope that the September update finally brings 2.x up to release quality, but am, admittedly, tending toward skeptical at this point.

AppVee each application based on a variety of factors depending on the type of app. For entertainment applications, for example, apps are rated on ease of use, features, frequency of use, interface and usefulness. Apple has quietly allowed open source iPhone development since the original iPhone was introduced. The community was gaining ground and respect. Apple's hugely anticipated iPhone does more than make calls, it also supports a digital-music player that syncs with iTunes. The thin design is dominated by a vivid touch screen that showcases videos and photos beautifully.

Apple 's combines the functionality of an Internet -enabled cell phone with that of an iPod media player . In addition to the usual suite of communication features on a mobile phone, the iPhone can access the Internet via its EDGE or 3G wireless data connection. Apple rumors can amount to massive attention for any blog, a rule of thumb that even applies to Digg founder Kevin Rose. It's difficult for bloggers to resist the delicious temptation of spreading Apple rumors along with a "leaked photo" as the prize inside.

Apple new venture with Best Buy should help it achieve its goal of 10 million units sold by the end of 2008 . Apple's own support phones were so jammed that we were unable to get through until late Friday evening. Meanwhile, instructions on the Apple website for basic functions, such as configuring your email, were confusing and of little help.

Discovering The Amazement Of Iphone Technology

Discovering The Amazement Of Iphone Technology was written by Adrian Namara from iphonemakesense.com

Discovering The Amazement Of Iphone TechnologyIn order to discover the wonders of iPhone technology, one must sink into its different parts and features, although in this edition, there are top 5 iPhone facts that one must be aware of, from the release to the different applications it supports. Some might find it to be an advantage and some, a disadvantage.

Either way, good or bad, here are some of the facts you need to know.

Supports video generating websites

Mobile phones were considered as a means of communication in the past times. Text messaging was then the single most important use of a cell phone and was one of the main features of mobile manufacturers. Today, the youth seem to convey the importance of having a mobile phone which can browse and even stream music videos and movies from their source.

On the other hand, while some are very well satisfied with the performance of the device in terms of surfing through the net and checking out important e-mails, others are still unconvinced on the matters of its connectivity edge via Wi-Fi because of the precaution that access will not be as smooth as expected.

Supports iTunes

Apple has accomplished this very vital part of human's melodic life. Many people purchasing the phone had the sole reason of having one because of the musical features. Other phone manufacturers have tried putting up a model that will sufficiently feature downloading songs the easy way. There are a lot of struggles done in order to put up with the idea of organizing a multimedia management through phones basing from multimedia order. Technically, iPhone has successfully done its part in managing this kind of predicament and has filled up files with top rating contents of the multimedia field.

Interface based on the user

Mac OS X is a kind of user interface which is primarily featured by Apple. Although, it has been easier for competitors to replicate the idea. Apple has decided not to open to developers belonging from a third party. The downfall of those who replicates the idea of having user interface is that it becomes a hassle instead of an advantage because of slow loading and sometimes, it never gets to the loading part at all.

Screen display

The display is always considered as Apple's pride. The phone's display is about 3.5 inches with a 320 x 480 pixels display. The touch screen feature made it impossible for other competitors to beat Apple from the point of view of market value and capability of mobile phones. Upgrading surface display to a high quality optical glass from plastic is one of the major factors why the device has become more scratch-proof. The more reason why people love it compared to other devices.

Release reviews

There are many complaints regarding the release of the device. Although, this didn't stop the manufacturer to introduce it to the technological world. It has a retail price of $499 that is tagged for the 4 GB storage and $599 for the 8 GB storage. The contract was signed for AT&T for two years. Compared to other phones that has already been released and made ground breaking moments through the communication world, the price tag was quite reasonable and has proven its worth.

It has become record-breaking that Apple reached its mark and was well-appreciated by advocates around the world.

Bring Back Old Memories From Free Polyphonic Ringtones

Bring Back Old Memories From Free Polyphonic Ringtones was written by MIKE SELVON from cellularringtones.allnewsinfoportal.info

Bring Back Old Memories From Free Polyphonic RingtonesIf you are old enough to have "enjoyed" the experience of using a basic cell phone from about ten years ago, it could be that you have really fond and cherished memories of that phone. But, it is perhaps more likely that the things that stick out in your mind are the dropped calls, the terrible sound, and the irritating ringtones that were monophonic at best. Fortunately, these days we can make the most of free polyphonic ringtones for cell phones.

The younger generation can consider themselves fortunate if they missed those "good old days" of the early monophonic ringtones. Some people compared those old fashioned caller ringtones to screaming cats, whining kids, and nails being dragged across the chalkboard all smashed into one horrific sound that blasted every time your phone rang. Today, in the age of polyphonic ringtones, you would be embarrassed if your phone made such a racket, but back in the day everyone was dealing with the same wireless ringtones.

The wonderful news is that those days are long gone and people can enjoy real music ringtones through the wondrous advancements in cell phone technology and the availability of free polyphonic ringtones. Indeed, the eventual death of the phones that blasted out monophonic ringtones brought on a much more pleasant era in cellular ringtones.

We are no longer subjected to the whiny, tinny, scratchy sounds of those old monophonic tones. Instead, we are now able to enjoy the crisp, clear and completely distinguishable tunes that come from the polyphonic ringtones. As a wonderful bonus to the cellular phone using world, now that these much improved cellular ringtones have been available for several years, there is a plethora of cool websites that provide the world with no-cost polyphonic ringtones.

What better way is there to help people notice and admire your brand new cell phone than with some awesome ringtones? These sublime polyphonic caller ringtones are the perfect fit for those who like to fully customize every electronic device that they own. Who doesn't love to feel that their electronic gadgets have been personalized and tailored to their own likes and tastes?

There are free-of-charge polyphonic ringtones websites all over the internet these days. You can find even the most obscure, underground techno tunes as downloadable ringtones for your cell phone if you put in a bit of time and effort to search around the web long enough. There are real music ringtones available these days that cover virtually every genre of music and every taste.

With some of the websites that offer free polyphonic ringtones there is a catch and you should be careful not to fall into a trap unawares when you download them. Many of these sites that offer free cell ringtones actually require you to buy points on their site in order to download the ringtones that you want. This means that you could end up paying for these "free" ring tones if you are not careful to read all of the fine print first.

Opera Mini Mobile Software being Rejected is False

Opera Mini Mobile Software being Rejected is FalseLast week it was stated that Opera Software’s Opera Mini Browser had been rejected by Apple for the Apple iTunes App Store…(see here) However, according to some, this may not be entirely accurate…

According to further investigation into this matter done by one John Gruber, he states.

My understanding, based on information from informed sources who do not wish to be identified because they were not authorized by their employers, is that Opera has developed an iPhone version of Opera Mini - but they haven’t even submitted it to Apple, let alone had it be rejected.

John Gruber had originally presumed that Opera Software’s Opera Mini browser for the Apple iPhone has been rejected by Apple because of a built in JavaScript interpreter, but now confirms that he was incorrect on this matter.

RIM BlackBerry: Leap to Open Source?

RIM BlackBerry: Leap to Open Source?Could Research in Motion (RIM) BlackBerry OS follow in the same steps as Google’s Android open-source and Symbian as it becomes an open-source operating system?

Although it might seem unlikely being that BlackBerry OS is proprietary for it to jump to Open-Source, but with Nokia and Symbian OS also being licensed proprietary operating systems and recently switching over it may not be ruled out. According to EE Times Senior software developer at RIM Cassidy Gentle said “We do have an open source management team that is investigating this. I would expect some of our Eclipse or Mobile Tools for Java could be made available on an open source basis, but as for our APIs or other software… that’s a pretty big leap.”

Open-Source allows developers to use the codes that are used to make applications without charging them any fee. One of the best known Open-Source operating systems for desktops is Linux and several others have emerged with many more coming in a few months.

Why BlackBerry Storm will beat iPhone 3G and G1 Phone?

Why BlackBerry Storm will beat iPhone 3G and G1 Phone? We here at Phones Review would like to give you our reason why the RIM BlackBerry Storm will beat the likes of the Apple iPhone 3G and T-Mobile HTC Google Android G1 phone.

The BlackBerry Storm which is set for release on November 7th which we have been told is going to be a phone of all smartphones and could possibly beat the Apple iPhone and T-Mobile G1 Android phone hands down, below are some of the reasons why this may be possible. Personally I use the Apple iPhone 3G but will also get the Storm just to test it.

The BlackBerry Storm has been all the talk lately and with its release getting nearer we can see why the masses are getting excited, can this BlackBerry smartphone really put a dent in the market?

Well the BlackBerry Storm is coming on two major networks which are Verizon and Vodafone and it is going to be on Telus and Bell also, apparently these carriers have proven 3G networks, npw with Verizon having a whopping 70 million customers we can see them alone giving the BlackBerry Storm a very strong presence indeed. The good thing is that the Storm will have appropriate European/Asian-supported GSM bands with Verizon, Telus and Bell.

The BlackBerry App Store is said to be coming and we already know how good the Apple App store is and Google apps store is getting better, well RIM did hold a BlackBerry Developer Conference which had around 700 attendees, the BlackBerry App Store will be opening its doors March 2009 which is good news which means it will give you time to play around with the Storm smartphone and of course will give RIM the time to product quality and quantity. At the moment Google are struggling a little on the application front with around 100 apps, there are more apps via other web-based stores though. The BlackBerry App Store however will be much better in the way of purchasing applications straight from the device like that of the iPhone. Oh and there is a $150 million BlackBerry Partners Fund to back it up.

Now to the BlackBerry Storm touchscreen, the touchscreen uses springs which is the worlds first and of course has Haptic feedback technology, this means that you have to push down firmly to activate, and of course this means no accidental pressing of the icons on the screen. The BlackBerry Storm has 3 keyboard options which include SureType, QWERTY in landscape mode and Traditional 12-key in Portrait mode.

What we like is the background processing which is very much different to that of the BlackBerry Bold; well as far as we can tell anyway. I use the iPhone and must say the BlackBerry Storm is a little different in this area, for example the Storm uses true background processing of data-based applications such as running IM applications like iSkoot and Skype in the background, this is fantastic because even though the IM application is running in the background the smartphone will prompt you when a message comes in, unlike the Apple iPhone’s Google Chat which does not run in the background.

The only major downside to the BlackBerry Storm as to be the lack of Wi-Fi, but we are guessing this is because Verizon does not support UMA/GAN, personally this is pretty bad news really and RIM should have added this feature.

What do you think: Do you think the BlackBerry Storm will beat the Apple iPhone 3G and Google G1 phone in sales?

Why the HTC G1 Google Android Phone is a flop

Why the HTC G1 Google Android Phone is a flopWe will get the HTC G1 Google Android phone and until then we will not pass judgment personally, we are going to say what many of our readers have said so far to date.

The T-Mobile HTC G1 phone powered by the new Google Android has not been a major success like people thought it would be, the hype and build up to this smartphone was immense and all we need is true figures to prove that it has been a success.

We have already published a couple of articles that are interesting for example the one about T-Mobile fails to auto-port 3G to G1 customers (Read Here) or how about Verizon saying do not bother buying a T-Mobile G1 phone (Read here).

This G1 phone is surely falling behind and lacking that sensational hype, the hyped has fallen as they say. The Google Phone went on sale on October 22 in the U.S and October 31 in the UK and already people are complaining of its flaws.

The first flaw is the fact that when the screen has been pushed up to reveal the QWERTY keypad it is a little difficult to hold the phone and type because of the bulky bottom which will obviously be located on the right hand side whilst typing, many customers have said that the bottom of the phone is in the way when typing.

Some say the phone is too clunky and cheap when handling, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack and the worst bit is when taking a call the chunky bottom hits your chin. Please let us know what you think of the HTC G1 Google Android Phone?

Omnia’s brother Samsung T*OMNIA is bigger and improved

Omnia’s brother Samsung T*OMNIA is bigger and improvedLooks like Samsung Korea has a new mobile phone out, the Samsung OMNIA’s brother no less known as the Samsung T*OMNIA, both Samsung phones are quite similar, although this new T*OMNIA does have four improved features.

The four improved features of the Samsung T*OMNIA are…3.3 display rather than the Omnia’s 3.22…the resolution is higher at 480 x 800 rather than the Omnia’s 240 x 400…the addition of a DMB TV Tuner…lastly the T*OMNIA id larger in size at 115.2 x 58.1 x 13.65.

What is interesting though it that the Samsung T*OMNIA uses the same digital TV tuner and screen size as the Japanese Samsung Omnia 930SC
